<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Problem</h2>

<p>I came across a Brain Bee AGS-688 gas analyzer that refused to measure, and, when connected to a laptop would show the error &#8220;Fatal test bench error&#8221; or something to that tone. The machine would also not start the leak test, it would just freeze and would have to be restarted.</p>

<p>The user manual highlights a method to check the errors stored in the eeprom like such:</p>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-large is-resized"><img fetchpriority="high" decoding="async" width="1024" height="755" src="https://g00.eu/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/image-1024x755.png" alt="" class="wp-image-837" style="aspect-ratio:1.3554194085167537;width:382px;height:auto" srcset="https://g00.eu/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/image-1024x755.png 1024w, https://g00.eu/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/image-300x221.png 300w, https://g00.eu/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/image-768x567.png 768w, https://g00.eu/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/image-600x443.png 600w, https://g00.eu/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/image.png 1228w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>
</div>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-large is-resized"><img decoding="async" width="1024" height="695" src="https://g00.eu/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/image-1-1024x695.png" alt="" class="wp-image-838" style="aspect-ratio:1.473926632669847;width:456px;height:auto" srcset="https://g00.eu/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/image-1-1024x695.png 1024w, https://g00.eu/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/image-1-300x204.png 300w, https://g00.eu/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/image-1-768x521.png 768w, https://g00.eu/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/image-1-600x407.png 600w, https://g00.eu/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/image-1.png 1468w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>
</div>

<p>So, within the GAS menu, you can reach the CONTROLS menu where ANALYSER ERROR shows a scrollable list of all the errors that the machine can exhibit. Active errors are shown as ON, all other errors which are inactive are shown as OFF</p>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-large is-resized"><img decoding="async" width="1024" height="645" src="https://g00.eu/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/image-2-1024x645.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-839" style="aspect-ratio:1.5886055376614165;width:711px;height:auto" srcset="https://g00.eu/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/image-2-1024x645.jpg 1024w, https://g00.eu/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/image-2-300x189.jpg 300w, https://g00.eu/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/image-2-768x483.jpg 768w, https://g00.eu/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/image-2-1536x967.jpg 1536w, https://g00.eu/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/image-2-2048x1289.jpg 2048w, https://g00.eu/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/image-2-600x378.jpg 600w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>
</div>

<p><strong>ER15 was shown as ON </strong>in our case, and the message was: &#8220;Serious Manufacturer Defect&#8221; (I translated this from romanian as that was the language on this particular device). Now what?</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Solution</h2>

<p>Having checked that all exterior filters and connections were fine, there was no other choice than to dive in.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="768" src="https://g00.eu/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_4856-1-1024x768.jpeg" alt="" class="wp-image-841" srcset="https://g00.eu/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_4856-1-1024x768.jpeg 1024w, https://g00.eu/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_4856-1-300x225.jpeg 300w, https://g00.eu/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_4856-1-768x576.jpeg 768w, https://g00.eu/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_4856-1-1536x1152.jpeg 1536w, https://g00.eu/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_4856-1-2048x1536.jpeg 2048w, https://g00.eu/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_4856-1-600x450.jpeg 600w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>
</div>

<p>First thing I saw, was the internal clock battery. Guess what? 0.2V</p>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="768" src="https://g00.eu/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_4858-1024x768.jpeg" alt="" class="wp-image-842" srcset="https://g00.eu/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_4858-1024x768.jpeg 1024w, https://g00.eu/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_4858-300x225.jpeg 300w, https://g00.eu/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_4858-768x576.jpeg 768w, https://g00.eu/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_4858-1536x1152.jpeg 1536w, https://g00.eu/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_4858-2048x1536.jpeg 2048w, https://g00.eu/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_4858-600x450.jpeg 600w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>
</div>

<p>Yep. That was it. Back in working order. (don&#8217;t have photographic proof, sorry)</p>

<p><strong>Conclusion: The error ER15 for a Brain Bee AGS-688 may be the internal battery. </strong></p>
